THE.CHRISTMAS.BOX

life with carlie.

i could write a novel... no... a series of novels... thats right, multiple volumes, on the subject. carlie is passionate & inspired. when an idea crosses her mind, nothing else on earth deserves her attention at that particular moment. whether it be going for a run, a new artistic tangent with our branding, or in this case, christmas decor, carlie knows what she wants.

well, she knows what she wants most of the time, but more accurately, is mostly figuring out what she wants as she goes. so, as we prepared for a visit from our family over thanksgiving, carlie got inspired.

in our new home, where would we put our christmas tree?

well... after 3 complete re-designs of the living room, including the shifting of the layout for most of our major furniture, carlie decided.

we aren't getting a tree.

what do you think about that? but don't worry, her new idea will probably evaporate once we unload the christmas box. i know most of you have one. and, if you have been in the business of being a family for very long, you probably even have an entire quadrant of your garage dedicated to the holiday. seeing as carlie & i are just shy of one-and-a-half years of marriage, we have a single, rather small, box of yule-tide accessories.

so, with turkey day behind us, and the holidays before us, pray for me. think of me. because, the exciting part of a small christmas box is that we still have room to be inspired, room to grow; the difficult part is, we are inventing ourselves with each step. and that is tough work.

  1. I love you two so much. ;) Your writing is so fun to read. Yes, you are right, our family does have about 13 boxes dedicated to Christmas, no joke, it's a little scary. I'm looking at them spewed across our family room right now.

  2. I agree with Jamie - you two make me laugh! I will check back in to see what happens in The Christmas Box - continued... We had the same dilemma when we first bought this house. We move out a piece of furniture to the garage every year and the tree takes its place for a while. :)

  3. Every year of marriage, you'll accumulate a few more boxes of christmas stuff. I think we have about 10 now, so after 3 years of marriage- that's about right! Even if you have a tiny one- I am sure you guys will find room for it!

i'm not a grinch. just practical. we go to my family's house every year for xmas. i'm hardly ever home. especially now.. we're in the philippines for 6 months.

  9. I will be sad for you guys if you don't get a tree! How about you get a mini tree. That way it wont look bare without tons of ornaments, and your house will still smell like Christmas. Get a treeeeeeeeee!!!!!

  10. I'm with your sister on this one... Get a tree!! Even if it's just a two foot tree- it's small enough so you don't have rearrange everything & you still can decorate. Merry Christmas to the both of you and your entire family!

  11. ha! we did the same thing in that stage of our marriage. it's so hard to justify..but starting traditions and collecting christmas "chatchkis" over the years is the fun of it all.
like..we wrap up baby jesus in the manger scene and open him on christmas morning...so awesome.

  12. I'd say get a tree- Christmas just isn't the same without the smell. We live in a pretty small bungalow in LA and get a baby one every year- only about 5ft tall... but it really does help the spirit!
